About Dr Kit Spears

Dr Kit Spears is an experienced, multi-award-winning implant dentist and mentor who provides structured, case-based mentoring for clinicians looking to develop confidence, predictability, and safe progression in implant dentistry.

He limits his clinical practice exclusively to dental implants and oral surgery and has over a decade of experience managing straightforward through to complex implant cases within busy private practices. His mentoring is grounded in real clinical workflows, realistic case selection, and evidence-based decision-making, not theory alone.

Dr Spears graduated from the University of Bristol in 2011 and completed a Master’s degree in Dental Implantology in 2017, achieving merit overall and a distinction in his dissertation. He has undertaken extensive postgraduate surgical training in the UK and internationally and continues to practice at multiple implant referral centres. His work has been recognised with several national awards, including Best Young Implant Dentist and Dentistry Clinical Case Awards for implant and restorative treatment.

He is one of the first UK dentists approved and listed on the UK Implant Mentor Register, overseen by the College of General Dentistry in collaboration with the International Team for Implantology (ITI) and the Association of Dental Implantology (ADI). He is approved to mentor all complexities of implant treatment (Straightforward, Advanced and Complex). This recognition reflects his ability to provide mentoring that is clinically robust, structured, and medico-legally recognised.

Dr Spears offers mentoring in a range of formats to suit different stages of development and clinical need – from chairside, in-person mentoring for hands-on surgical support, to formal remote mentoring that includes comprehensive case review, treatment planning, and post-operative debrief, with cases suitable for logbook inclusion. He also provides informal case advice for clinicians seeking timely guidance on straightforward cases.

His mentoring style is calm, supportive, and highly practical. Each case is approached with a clear structure: careful pre-operative planning, appropriate risk assessment, considered surgical execution, and reflective post-operative review. This allows mentees to build confidence safely, develop sound clinical judgement, and progress at a pace appropriate to their experience.

Dentists who work with Dr Spears value his ability to translate complex implant decisions into clear, actionable guidance and his focus on helping clinicians deliver predictable outcomes while maintaining high standards of patient care and professional accountability.

Implant mentoring for dentists

Dr Kit Spears provides structured, case-based implant mentoring for dentists, supporting safe clinical development through clinician-led guidance on real cases, including treatment planning, clinical execution and post-operative review. This approach promotes safe and appropriate clinical development, sound case selection and risk assessment, evidence-based decision making, honest reflection and learning from outcomes, while maintaining patient safety and professional accountability.

Logbook Guidance for Mentees

Maintaining a clear and accurate logbook is an important part of safe clinical development in implant dentistry. A logbook helps demonstrate how experience has been gained, how cases were selected appropriately, and how learning has been supported through reflection and mentoring.

Mentoring Testimonials

Adeel Nazir

“It was an invaluable experience being mentored by Kit for my first implant case outside my training programme. It was a big first case, complex UR1 implant with bone grafting using Xenograft as well as autogenous harvesting plus a temporary bridge. I felt so lucky to be supported by an excellent implant surgeon and an excellent teacher. Prior to the procedure, extensive planning was provided by Kit for every step of the procedure. I performed the whole procedure myself, but felt so well supported with Kit by my side, who provided invaluable guidance throughout the procedure at every step. The patient postoperatively was very complimentary of Kit and felt she was in such good hands with both of us during the procedure. Feedback by Kit after the procedure was very detailed at each step and was very encouraging. Both verbal and written feedback were given.”

Laura Sharpe

“I cannot recommend Kit highly enough as an implant mentor. This was my first GBR case for an anterior tooth, but he gave me such excellent support and guidance that I felt relaxed and confident in the result we achieved. Kit has a calm and competent manner and gave me some great clinical tips in a style that was reassuring to the patient and team. The feedback he gave me after the appointment was thorough and well-considered, and I am so grateful for all the time he spent ensuring this case would be successful.”

Tania Hernandez

“Thank you for all your support during the preparation of the cases and the clinical procedures. I felt well supported throughout, which made the process much smoother and more enjoyable, despite the challenges. I really appreciated your guidance and the way you took the time to explain things clearly and practically. Your feedback was helpful and reassuring, and it made a big difference to my confidence during the sessions. I really appreciate how you encourage your mentees to step out of their comfort zone, but in a way that always puts patient safety first. I enjoy challenging myself, but I sometimes need a bit of a push to feel confident - and you managed to do that without making me feel under pressure. Overall, it was a great mentoring experience, and I learned a lot from it. Your feedback was clear, detailed, and very helpful. I can’t thank you enough for mentoring me - it has really motivated me to keep improving. I’m looking forward to working on the next cases and continuing to build on what I’ve learned. ”
